Jun 30th, 2011 at 5:53pm Print Post I was thinking about the episode Q of P over the past couple of weeks and I had a couple of thoughts. A good friend rasied the first point so I'll put it out for consideration, disscussion, target practice. Has anyone noticed that John Straker's eyes are not blue like both of his parents? Granted eye color is determined by several factors so it may not mean anything, but could rasie a few "interesting" questions. The other thing I thought about was John's last name. It has been assumed that it was Rutland because he was admitted to the hospital under that name. Another possibility is that this was an administrative error. The hospital ER admissions clerk might have just assumed the last name because Mary and/or her husband would have identified themselves as Mr. & Mrs. Rutland. It does happen quite often in these cases and under the curcumstances Mary might not have even thought to clarify the last name. Straker asked for his condition using the name John Straker which indicates to me, Straker was John's legal last name. (Ed would have known, had it been changed.) Changing the name of a child without the consent of the non-custodial parent is difficult, if not impossible in the US. I'm not sure about the UK. What do you mean, we're out of coffee! WWW IP Logged

Reply #1 - Jun 30th, 2011 at 6:57pm Print Post I've always interpreted the name issue as being an adminstrative error. Straker would have known if Johnny's name had been legally changed. And I'm sure somewhere, there was a SHADO security file on Rutland and someone keeping an eye on Johnny - what better way to get at Straker but through his child? And the eye color issue is an interesting one. Both Straker and Mary have light colored eyes - Straker's eyes are very blue and Mary's eyes look like they are a blue-gray. Johnny's eyes look hazel in some shots - even under the same lighting where Straker's eyes are clearly blue. Plot idea, anyone? If you only have one solution to a problem - you're not trying. Reply #7 - Jul 11th, 2011 at 8:30pm Print Post Well, according to the original script for CCAOK, Rutland was at their wedding. So evidently he had been in her life for a while, at least. In my story Full Circle, I used that inference as part of the storyline. The sky is not the limit; nor are the stars. WWW IP Logged

But in Mary's defense, she didn't think along those lines until her mother dropped the hint. Still, the idea has merit, it would make one hell of a story. What do you mean, we're out of coffee! Reply #11 - Jul 12th, 2011 at 1:35pm Print Post Or a real serious plot twist - Johnny really is Straker's kid but there's some odd genetics going on which puts some doubts in Straker's mind about Mary's fidelity. (This would most likely be thanks to Alec, of course.) If you only have one solution to a problem - you're not trying. IP Logged
