The Lois & Clark TNAoS fandom has had annual fanfiction awards for many years now and (drum roll here): This year General Edward Straker (of SHADO) has been nominated for Best Supporting Character for The Smallville Connection. The rest of the time he's a good guy - which seems to please even the Superman fans. Although I do have to admit - he did make a very good bad guy. Freeman and Lake are definitely on the side of angels and I know they have high hopes of getting Straker turned around - as soon as they find him. But Straker can be really stubborn. I'm glad it won an award. Or rather, that Gen. Straker won an award. It was fun to see Superman as a boy. I never watched the show; the original was before my time and the remake was after. But I saw the Christopher Reeves movie when it came out and really liked it. Anyway, excellent story. Thanks for letting us know about the award! The sky is not the limit; nor are the stars. I do still watch Smallville occasionally - though any series that goes past about 5 or 6 seasons begins to lose its attraction for me - and General Straker fitted right in. I particularly enjoyed the Freeman / Straker conversations. I love dialogue when it really works. And I found the Men In Black references laugh-out-loud funny. IP Logged

I'm a closet Superman fan! There is something about a person "who stands for truth, justice, and the American way," that appeals to the greater angels of my nature. Extremes in religion are a personal bee in my bonnet. Doing what's right because it's only common sense. Some days I feel like John Lennon's 'Imagine" Simple philosophy, beautifully told beautifully sung. I've always liked Lennon. Although I have some personal belief in metaphysics, the best 'religion' I've ever come across is the Golden Rule. I read the story, I enjoyed it although I'm not into Smallville or Superman. My wife grew up on Superman comics. She didn't like Lane, she wanted him to marry the mermaid. ED (Mr. Write Rat) IP Logged
