Star Trek is really hard to write for, and that's because its canon IS set in stone! The sky is not the limit; nor are the stars. WWW IP Logged

Kal-El hails from Krypton and Kryptonians have Superpowers -Oh, you want to write a story where it's Lois that's from Krypton. COOL!' BTW, that particular story is real and is NOT tagged AU. Creativity is highly valued over there. (And there are REAL professional writers and journalists there, too. My favorite general editor works for the Seattle Times.) Granted there are some staples that may not work as well in UFO - like the plot untwist (take a random element that undoes the entire story - in the case of Responsibility Seat, Miss Ealand checking on Jo Frazer's references.) Ooh, I think I have July's challenge. But still, nobody disrespects you for things like - Lois and Clark being reincarnated and having their old memories (I have to get back to that one), SHADO saving Superman (they LIKE Straker), Lois and Clark liking sex... : And now you all know what I'm modelling THIS forum after - although we are a much chattier bunch than they are. Here we may actually have a little more leeway in some things because in the show, they ignored so much RL - like what Straker's career path should have been, what SHADO would have had in place to protect Straker and the other ranking officers, what Miss Ealand's job really was, exactly who was in the know about SHADO's mission... Maybe it didn't occur to them because it was science-fiction and maybe TV writing hadn't really evolved to the point of recognizing that even when you set something in the near future, you still have to account for what RL looks like - people eat and sleep and have jobs and all that. All she needed was 5 minutes alone, powdering her nose, and make a phone call to Mr. Photographer, give him the hotel location and time, voila. IP Logged
