The way he reacted at the hospital suggests that, deepdown, he actually liked Straker but didn't like what his own wife had done to end the marriage. It's possible that Straker could do no right in Mary's mother's eyes. WWW IP Logged

Yes, absolutely yes, which makes me - well - I'll explain once I've written my take. Just that much - Rutland to me definitely is a walking carpet (a jealous one) of Mary in my book. IP Logged

I most certainly saw Mary's father as henpecked. And I see half the problems Ed and Mary had being caused by her medling mother. It would have been interesting to see how things would have worked out with her mom being helpful and supportive. Good plot for an AU story! My biggest problem with Mary as always been her apparent lack of assuming responsiblity for her inaction when John ran into the road. People not taking responsibility for thenselves is a big pet peave of mine! Her treatment of Ed in the hospital was cruel and cold, in my eyes regardless of her grief. My impression is that she never apologized making her actions unforgivable. But as I said before I base that on what I saw in "Subsmash" which took place a year or so later in my timeline. There are so many unanswered questions here which makes the field wide open to interpetation. Louise called it the lack of an overarching theme, something that B5 did very well. And in a way I'm glad that the show wasn't tighter. I would never have been able to pull off "Mission of Mercy" or "Silver Star" had the plotlines been iron clad. So thanks Gerry, you created a FanFic writers dreamworld! What do you mean, we're out of coffee! WWW IP Logged
