Well, my take on canon -
(And this works quite well on other fan-fic forums)

1. The final filmed or aired episode or movie.
2. Director's cut (if a movie)
3. Final or shooting script of aired episode or movie
4. official series 'bible' if any.
5. writers' and directors' commentaries on aired episodes or movie or other writer/director discussion of the project.
6. 'Official' novelizations.
7. unaired/unfilmed episodes/scripts.

6 and 7 are a little iffy - some novelizations are so unrelated to what was on the screen as to make them little more than paid fan-fiction. Unaired episodes were probably 'unaired' for a good reason and unfilmed scripts might have interesting ideas but what would have ended up on the screen would probably have born little resemblance to the original script.

The original shooting script described Freeman as Australian.

To give an example of variations of canon -
Lois & Clark, The New Adventures of Superman:
There is an episode where Clark gives his birth date as February 28, 1966. This is on air.

The final shooting script gives his birth date as Feb 29, 1966 (Someone didn't do their homework, 1966 was not a leap year.)

Obviously what was on air trumps the script - even though there were old Superman comics that gave Superman's birthday as being February 29.

But Superman comics is NOT canon for Lois & Clark.

Hi K-k,

Quote:
Why? It is, after all, called "acting".
...
Sorry, but that line just asked for a snarky comment ...

Because he lacked certain physical criteria which speak "money" loud and clear and had certain criteria which say that there was no money available to correct those.

He showed (physically) that he did not grow up in an exactly wealthy family and a lot of that can't be changed later in life (some but not everything). It has nothing to do with acting, but with a certain in-depth grooming, specific health-care and nutrition.

As simple (or complicated) as that  Smiley

Without talking to Bentley directly... my guess is, being that he's not from the US and therefore may not understand the nuances regarding 'Ivy League' colleges... Yale was probably chosen because it sounds prestigious. But MIT and Caltech are the seriously techie colleges and state universities give Very good educations depending on the program.

I've got a kid going for his doctorate. The schools with highest rankings in his chosen field?
University of Missouri, Washington State University, University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, University of California Davis. There was also a school in Britain whose name escapes me.

Not an Ivy League school among them. His chosen field, native hunting and weapons - okay, so its not astronomy and physics, but I've never heard of any great physicists coming from Yale, either.

Hi Deb,

pretty good description, detailing also the shortcomings of some angles.

And I bet it gets really funny in the Superman universe, with all those different movies and TV series?

Actually , in 'Exposed'. Foster reveals that Straker carried out Lunar research at MIT.

IIRC, Chris based the Biographies in his book on official ITC Publicity material

I read a book on Clyde Tombaugh when I was in grade school. Quite an interesting character. Wink

When I think of schools that teach physics I usally think of Cambridge, Stanford, Cal-Tech, or MIT and I'm sure there are a bunch of others that fit right in.  Smiley

Deb I'm still impressed with your take on Ed's backstory, I can tell that a lot of research went into that. Wink

There's quite a bit of good little tidbit's in this thread!
