Posts: 187 Location: Berkshire UK Re: Foster and Straker Reply #121 - Mar 11th, 2017 at 5:20am Print Post Update… This story, now featuring no fewer than three fencing sessions courtesy of my fight arranger , has acquired the title 'The Brotherhood' and has been assembled into a not-quite-first draft and shot off to DebbieJ for her comments. Even incomplete, it runs to about 33,000 words, so far. I have a closing scene to write and several gaps to fill, so it'll grow a bit more yet. Oh and Moo… The Fairbairn-Sykes makes a non-appearance Straker needs a weapon, but circumstances dictate that the only things available are kitchen knives. Straker selects a suitable candidate - and being one of those olde-fashioned country-cottage kitchens, they are old, heavy, and sharp - but he wishes he had something a little more professional! As things develop, it's just as well that his marksmanship is as good with a knife as it is with a gun! IP Logged

I may have to start a company by that name. If nothing else, the F-S fighting knife would make a lasting impression as Alec's choice of toothpick. Doing so without cutting his mouth to ribbons would be a great show of dexterity. Moo IP Logged

'Brotherhood' is now at roughly 50,000 words (estimated at 5 chars/word) and counting, but the bits are linking together nicely. I do my composing mainly in a plain-vanilla text editor, and load it into LbreOffice to get an RTF file, when I also get a proper word count. Just me being quirky IP Logged

It would have been so cool to have worked closely with Ed and Paul (grins and bats eyelashes). And I see Manhunt is up. Will print it off to read later at home tonight. Cool! IP Logged

I'm not going to print these out though. I'll wait until it's totally finished and posted on this site to do that since it's going to be a lot of pages when I do print it. But check my e-mail back to you. I told you what I was going to do. Thanks, SnowLeopard! IP Logged
