I'm still working on chapter 4, fine tuning as I go. By now, it should be obvious that there is more than one bad guy, each with his own agenda. Smiley

Look out Ginny and Ed! Shocked

Worked on chapter 5 today. Most of it is done. We know that Straker has one ace up his sleeve. Wink

The Russians are getting antsy as well. Shocked

They make good allies for the aliens. Shocked Just about the same amount of moral fiber. Methinks Straker will hate the General and his ilk even worse. Shocked

My stories, that deal with history, all point to a faction of the Nazi's, colaborating with the aliens. Most of the stuff I focus on is the alien tech, and how some of it may have been used to get SHADO up and running so quickly.

The Nazi/Alien alliance opens other possibilities, some of which I vaguely allude to, but I am somewhat reluctant to go down that path, for fear of how it might affect those who still remember those times. It's like incorporating the events of 9-11 into a story. A few writers have done it tastefully and found a balance that works, but I'm not sure of my ability to strike that balance, especially with an event as frightening and painful as the Holocaust. Cry

I've been thinking about this story for over a year and I'm glad I waited before diving into it. It's a complex plot by necessity, a lot of bad things had to happen to get the major powers, who know of the alien threat, to start shooting at each other.

I'm trying to balance the intrigue with some very personal moments, Ginny and Ed keeping each other grounded, a look into Alec's past, family moments, and so forth. I want the reader to identify with the characters, even the KGB Colonel is a family man.

Anyway, chapter 5 is done, except for some tweeking. On to chapter six. :Smiley

This is definitely a powerful and complex story.  Sorry it took me so long to catch up reading it after my trip.  The human moments are the most intense for me as a reader.  Thanks for giving us so many of them, especially since you really skimp on them in your general narrative.  What happens next?  Smiley

I use the narrative to cover the large gaps of time in the story, I could easily do 200K if I let myself get too detailed. Shocked (Besides, I can always write little subplots as short stories later on. Wink)

Denise, one of the things that you mentioned about Distant Memories, was how I went deeper into the feelings of the characters, this is a formula I wanted to keep for the follow on. When Ed looks at the pics in his office of Ginny and the kids, there is a lot of internal conflict, and Ed keeps it all in. Even his action of drawing his wife in, while in the control room, for him, that's big!

Jackson is alway been a tough character for me to write. I think in terms of straight out with it, no hidden meanings or agenda, where with Jackson, it's always about the angles. His conversation with Ed, in the beginning of chapter 3 seemed to read better than I've done in the past. (Although I was pleased with my portrayal of him in The Bodyguard :Smiley.) You and Deb, both write him extremely well. Smiley

Stay tuned, it starts getting bumpy from here. Shocked Wink

But why would it matter if your story was longer?  (Since your stories tend to be epics anyway.)  Cheesy Some scenes really shouldn't be passed over or the reader feels cheated.  IMHO  Smiley
But as is, it's still a really good story.  I'm not complaining.  Just thought you'd want to know my initial reaction upon reading it.  :Smiley
