When I watch both shows, I often wonder what it would be like if UFO:1999 had actually gone ahead. What would've you liked to see in the show if it had been produced? Look at the movie The Core - some great little ideas there about what might happen if the magnetosphere gets screwed up - but there is NOTHING humans can do that can stop the Earth's core from rotating because ITS rotation is related to the PLANET'S rotation. And the planet was still rotating. I can just about guarantee that when this was brought to the attention of the director he just shrugged and said, 'The audience won't care.' I reakon that ever since Star Trek was a hit back in the 60's everyone just wanted to compete with their Sci-Fi shows. Shows like Classic Battlestar Gallactica, Buck Rogers, UFO and Space: 1999 were in all competeing shows in the the Sci-Fi light. It was like everyone was too dumb to add real Scientific facts to their shows apart from one or two stories in the original Star Trek. The most ludacris thing ever in 60's and 70's Sci-Fi was the Moon blasting out of Earth's orbit in Space: 1999. that scenario is physically impossible. Any explosion creating enough delta-vee for escape velocity would have spilt the moon in two, not to mention the havoc it would have created on Earth. And they never would have reached relativistic velocities. The nearest solar system would have been thousands of years away. More than just a few plot holes there. The Moon had manufacturing and was building a warp-capable ship. Marooned personnel take off on ship - or they used a Spindizzy to turn Moonbase into a ship - or the warp field or Spindizzy was too big and took the Moon with it, or...
