how about some discussion regarding Ed Straker's full name?

In my stories I often use the full name, as it sounds more formal, and that one is Edward for me.

I am aware of the fact that it's not cleared up within the series itself, what "Ed" is the shortening of. But...

But here are my reasons for siding with "Edward":

Ed Bishop went under "Edward Bishop" repeatedly prior to UFO (not to speak of his real name George Victor), so it seems that "Ed" is a shortening of "Edward" on the actor plane.

As we know and see, Gerry Anderson used the forenames of the actors quite often as forenames for the characters they played. In the first episode Ed Bishop is credited as "Edward Bishop", in the following episodes that's shortened to "Ed". So, my take is that the same which applies to the actor applies to Commander Straker as well.

Now let's have your thoughts on this 

Oh and - NEVER could I make an Edwin out of Straker, oh no no. I know a certain Edwin...    Just don't go there, no no...

There are languages where "Straeker" would mean, well, I wouldn't want to have that surname, really. 

I actually like Edward. A rather timeless forename.
