That's why it's a given. I heard a wonderful dissertation on the possibilities of time travel years ago that summed up goes something like this: Premise #1 If time travel were possible, there would be some evidence of it, such as time travelers who are found out and exposed for what they are and what they're doing. Therefore, time travel isn't possible. Premise #2 What if they just haven't been caught at it? So in my book, there must be rules to time traveling.
