Time Travel Rules in your Universe

Since some of us are finally tackling last month's challenge (and time travel is such a sci-fi staple) what rules underpin the time travel in your writing universe?  Huh

In UFO we know the Aliens had FTL and the ability to 'freeze' time... Smiley

For the universe I'm writing in now, here are the time travel rules:

1. Don’t get caught!

2. Change as little as possible.

3. Accept only the unavoidable paradoxes.

4. Get back home!

But in my Chandra stories, I have a longer list of time travel rules that were set up by her planet for the jumpers.  They didn't worry about paradoxes at all, accepting that they were bound to happen.  Their first rule was not to use jumping as a means to murder someone.

A very good explaination of time travel can be found in this Wiki Article. Smiley

I use the 2.1 universe rules, such as in Back to the Future, The City on the Edge of Forever, and Yesterday's Enterprise. I used these rules when I wrote Distant Memories, and Love Never Fails, and I will follow suit in The Omega Conundrum. Smiley Smiley

A note on Timelash, when Ed and Virginia arrived at the studio, they effectively traveled back in time by almost two hours. The time field around the studio must have been a static rift in time. Cool! Wink

A static rift is a good way to describe it.  I called it a time freeze bubble.  Hey, whatever works, right?  Wink

I also use the '2.1' rules with a couple added on from L&C and Final Countdown
There is a Multiverse and if you can travel in time, chances are you can skip Planes.
Nature abhors paradoxes - if you manage to shoot your grandpa, you'll find out that grandma was having something on with the milkman.  Grin
