Normandie graciously told Denise about the birds and the bees- all right, just bees-gave us an idea. Normandie had that special knowledge. What other specialized knowledge, hobbies, know-how, experience, jobs, information- etc. etc. do others have that would be a plus for U F O fan fiction writers' research?
For example, for Maelstrom, we created Lady Violet Westbury.  One of Violet's passions is gardening. All we  know is gardening involves dirt. Period.  Wink So she could assist us with getting Violet right if she offered to help us. You see where we're going with this? Sound interesting?

Way kewl! I'm gracious... Who knew... Cheesy

I garden - mostly vegetable gardening but also flowers, trees, shrubs... and I do grow from seeds and cuttings, not just have the plant nursery do the growing for me.

I'm just getting into lunar planting - planting according the to moon's cycles - which you might be interested in for Lady V...

And here's the sceptic's view...

It's hard for me to categorize what I know.  I was a research librarian before I was Teen Director.  I know a little about a lot of things.

I do know a sociopath when I see one.  Wink

Let's see: art, movies, fashion, quilting, poetry, children, fairies, physics, grammar, quantum mechanics  Wink . . . and the list goes on.

I'm sure that if we all agree to be willing to help other writers when they miss a point, then we'll all continue to grow in our craft.  Of course, we'll all have to accept constructive criticism, which is the harder part.  But it helps that the atmosphere here is kind, which promotes the necessary attitudes to help and be helped.  Cool

Got it in one Denise, it's not so much what is said, but how it is said. Smiley

You really don't know how much restraint I'm showing here. Cheesy

Very gracious! Smiley

Okay my areas of expertise, better than average knowledge, or whatever, Aeronautics, submarines, space travel, Astronomy, communications, electronics, encryption, history, time travel, some aspects of physics and orbital mechanics, the sciences in general, (I was the the high school science nut, now called a geek.) and so forth. Like Denise, I try to learn everything about something, and something about everything. Wink

Oh, I can tell you how slot machines work too. I spent 13 years fixing that dang things. Shocked Grin

Don't ask me about spelling, I'm lost without my dictionary or spell checker! Shocked

I have a better than average knowledge of police and fire department procedures (US), forensics, a smattering of a whole lot of other things. Never worked in those fields but I've been told I fake it really wellGrin

Gee, I guess I know a bit about the history of Theatre, The Roman Empire and the gay leather lifestyle, but  I don't see how that would help a UFO fanwriter .....

Well, if by chance Straker and Foster were thrown back in time by the aliens and ended up part of an acting troupe in ancient Rome that was led by a gay director -- you'd be the perfect person to talk to for research!  Cheesy

Maybe, maybe not... but you'd be a bleddy sight more interesting to talk to in a bar than someone who plants spuds and keeps bees...

I've come to the conclusion, that nothing is unimportant.

In the Righteous Brother's song Rock 'in Roll Heaven there is a line that states, "everyone has a song to sing, and everyone is a star."  That concept applies to more than just music. Wink
