Hi,

timeframe: by 2010/09/30 the first chapter has to be posted, the rest at leisure

Make a UFO-story out of these (Chris de Burgh-)Lyrics with the main character of your story ending up in that bar in precisely this mood, having these kind of thoughts:

Quote:
Moonlight & Vodka

Fix me a drink, make it a strong one,
Hey comrade, a drink, make it a long one,
My hands are shaking and my feet are numb,
My head is aching and the bar's going round,
And I'm so down, in this foreign town;

Tonight there's a band, it ain't such a bad one,
Play me a song, don't make it a sad one,
I can't even talk to these Russian girls,
The beer is lousy and the food is worse,
And it's so damn cold, yes it's so damn cold,
I know it's hard to believe,
But I haven't been warm for a week;

Moonlight and vodka, takes me away,
Midnight in Moscow is lunchtime in L.A.,
Ooh play boys, play...

Espionage is a serious business,
Well I've had enough of this serious business,
That dancing girl is making eyes at me,
I'm sure she's working for the K.G.B.
In this paradise, ah cold as ice;

Moonlight and vodka, takes me away,
Midnight in Moscow is sunshine in L.A.,
Yes, in the gold U.S.A.

And in view of the fact that I seem to sense a wish in Deb for some adult content stories, those get brownie points who manage to incorporate at least one scene which necessitates an adult rating (for whatever places a story there - violence, drugs, nudity, sex, or whatever tickles you, free choice). More brownie points for more such scenes, of course *wicked grin here* - but as said, you can write it also a PG-13.

You can update the "KGB" to its modern variant "FSB" if you feel more comfortable writing in the actual future.

The winner gets photoshopped illustrations (from UFO photos) for his/her winning story from me illustrating the actual story for publication on Deb's site (and of course also any own website).  Wink

Hi Louise,

doesn't need to be overly long,  Wink, just good!  Grin

I just love that song, it paints such a vivid picture (especially for everyone who ever was in a Moscow bar anytime in winter) and I like espionage/spy-thrillers.

Hi,

after some deliberation with Louise I changed the timeframe. Seems a few have a heated September coming up  Shocked

Hi Louise,

NO trickery, my dear, research!

There's loads out on the web about Moscow. In winter. In bars.

OK:

The airliner touched down with barely a jolt and taxied to the designated stand. Having been at the back of the aircraft, Straker was amongst the last to leave. Descending the stairs, he spotted a shiny black Rolls-Royce. A liveried chauffeur opened the rear door and the passenger climbed out.
“Colonel Straker? Archibald Wilson, British Ambassador”
Straker paused to pull a photograph from his breast pocket.  Henderson had given him the photograph during the briefing earlier to confirm that the man in front of him was who he claimed to be, Straker, shook the outstretched hand.
A momentary flash startled Straker.
“Don’t worry, Colonel, it’s only the local KGB.” Wilson reassured him. “They photograph everyone entering the Soviet Union. It’s all part of the ‘Great Game’”
The chauffeur took Straker’s overnight bag and stowed it in the boot of the limousine. Before opening the rear passenger door. The two men climbed into the car, the Chauffeur closed the door then took his place at the wheel.
As the car pulled away, Wilson advised Straker of his itinerary:” You’ll spend the night at the British Embassy. Then we take you to see your host tomorrow morning It was thought that your message would be more credible coming from a comparatively neutral party, rather than from the American Government.
“My Host?” Straker was confused. “I thought I was coming to see you”
“Oh, no,” replied Wilson. “I’m just the messenger boy. Tomorrow, we pick up Academician Pavel Ustinov of the Soviet Academy of Science before travelling out to Peredelkino to your host’s dacha.
“So who is this host?”
“I’m sorry, old chap. Didn’t I tell you? You are going to meet the chairman of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union: Leonid Brezhnev”

Hawk.. there was a post on Fanderson about wondering whether anyone was writng a UFO novel... Don't know whether you saw it.. How is it coming along.. sounds great. I hope you get a publisher for it, ..I would certainly buy it on the strenght of the snippets I have read so far.. Perhaps you should put those bits in for Guina's challenge! Hey.. You could always ask if she could illustrate your book for you!!

WoW!

I'm still waiting for the publisher to get back to me; I sent them a plot synopsis and the first 50 pages of the Manuscript at the end of June but apart from an acknowledgment, I've heard nothing
